Dear Friends
This year marks 40 years since Athlone town made history by holding the mighty AC Milan to a scoreless draw at St. Mel’s Park. To mark the anniversary of that historic occasion a group of fans have come together to organise a gala dinner.

Date: 6th November 2015
Venue: The Sheraton Hotel Athlone

Cost: €50 per person

On October 22nd October 1975, a crowd of over 10,000 packed into the midlands venue to witness Athlone Town welcome Giovanni Trappatoni’s AC Milan to St. Mel’s Park in what was Athlone’s first ever season in Europe. A 4-2 aggregate victory over Valerenga of Norway in the previous round set up the glamour tie and the League of Ireland side did not disappoint, holding the Italian giants to a scoreless draw. Although they lost the return leg at the San Siro Stadium by three late goals to nil, few who witnessed the historic day in Athlone will ever forget it.

To mark this anniversary Friends of Athlone Town FC are organising a gala dinner and all of the historic members have been invited back to be guests of honour at this event. This is the first time that these players have been together since that fateful day 40 years ago.

Entertainment on the night will be provided by Keith McDonald and The Showband Show following the presentation of momentos to each player. It is hoped that prior to the date confirmation of after dinner guest speaker will be advised.

We invite you to be part of this event by purchasing a table for your friends and family to enjoy what is sure to be a wonderful night of good food, music and reminiscing.

A table for ten people costs just €500 and tickets can be purchased from any of the organising committee, which includes, Tom Burke, Michael Ganly, Brid McDermott, John Hayden and Larry Kildea.
