Conor Layng Plays his Part in Irish Victory

Athlone Town player Conor Layng played his part in the Republic of Ireland’s Schools 2-1 win in this seasons Centenary Shield against Wales. After taking the lead in the 1st half the Irish were pegged back by Wales and 12 minutes left in the game Conor was introduced to the game with the score at 1-1. It looked like the game was going to finish in a draw before Conor got through on goal and about to pull the trigger from close range when Welsh defender Carn Thomas took him down and Ireland were awarded a penalty that UCD’s Sean McDonald despatched.

Ireland now go on to face Northern Ireland in Bangor on the 2nd March, Scotland in Glasgow on the 6th April before ending their campaign with a home game against England at Home Farm FC on 13th April.
